DivX VODs black and silent on a *registered* LG Smart TV

DivX video becomes black after Warner Bros LOGO on a DivX registered LG Smart TV.
Why?
(I read the small movie on the TV and now it is stated that it is registered in the "smart share" options of the TV + the TV is indeed among the divx appliances on my divx account)

The divx VODs were downloaded on my PC where I can read them. I put them on a USB external disk that I connect to the TV. I can then launch the video and see the Warnert bros logo but not the movie!

After you see the Warner Bros Logo does it appear to keep playing, just blank? Do you hear any audio during the logo or afterwards? Does the time code continue moving?

If you play the files from the USB drive on your PC directly do they play? I want to make sure that the complete file successfully copied over to your USB hard drive..

Can you also try copying the files to a USB thumb drive and playing them on your TV from there?

Thanks for your answer.
- No after the logo everything stops (sound and images), the screen stays black and the USB LED does not flash any more. I do not see any time bar or clock since the screen is entirely black.

- I have tried with several movies that I can see on the PC *from the USB stick* and not on the TV. I even put not only the .divx but also the .tix files (what are they used for?) on the USB stick but same effect.

- I can see on the TV non protected divx movies that I have encoded myself from my movies.

- The icon for the protected movies is a locker

- I have also tried reading the movies from a shared hard disk => same effect.

- when I go in the options, I do see that the TV is registered for DivX VOD.

- I registered te TV after buying the protected movies. Is that a problem?

Lets make sure the registration process was completed on your TV. I have sent you and email containing a download link for your TV's activation file. Please download the file and copy it to the hard drive and play it back on your TV. You should see a video play that says 'registration successful'. Once you do this then try playing the movies back.

Thanks for your help Jeremy.

I indeed recieved your mail and played theTV_LG.divx video. Everything went OK and I saw the message by which it was registered, but it did not change anything with respect to the previous situation.
I tried with several movies including Valentine's day and Invictus (the only ones that I know how to translate the title in English! ;) ), but I stll got a silent black screen after the logo.
I do not know if it can help but my TV is a smart TV LG 32LM660S-ZA.

This evening, I tried deregistering the TV then registering it again.
There was a priori no change.

Then I had the idea to press fast forward before the black screen (something I never did before, I had always tried fast forward after the black screen before).
And to my surprise I could see the movie from there.
I tried on the 5 VODs that I have and it was the same.

Then I wanted to try to restart from the beginning of the movie. For some I again got black screen after the logo, for others the movie went on OK with pictures and sound!...

I tried with the movies on a FAT32 64 GB USB 3.0 key and also with them on a 750 GB USB 3.0 Hard disk formatted with NTFS.
From the USB key some movies went OK from the beginning, but from the HDD, none of the 5 tested seemed to work from the beginning although I could see the movie by using fast forward before the black screen.

This is very puzzling for me.

I already contacted LG hotline, but I shall do it again to tell them that.
If you have any idea of a possible cause, I am indeed interested! ;)

Wanted to get an update on this issue.

Where you able to get in contact with LG? If not can you please let me know which of the solutions you tried yielded successful playback. Was it all VOD files on the FAT32 formatted USB drive that worked for you? Sounds like the TV may only like certain types of formatted USB devices.

Thanks Jeremy for the interest on my case.

I must admit I have not spent much time on that since my last post.
Though there has been at least one upgrade of the firmware of the LG TV since that moment, but the problem is still there.
Last time I tried, the movies were on a brand new NAS visible from the TV, but even using fast forward at the very beginning I could see nothing else than the first minute up to the logo of the movie company and a black screen afterwards.
All the movies were downloaded legally from the web site of Warner Bros from my country and I can see them on my computer.

Could you tell me please what is the use of the .tix file?

Hi! Show room firmware? Even easier to share these problematic files :) Can allow the download to test (I have an LG 42LM620T) FOR example via torrent or https://mega.co.nz/? (Disable all filters enhanced picture?)

Which is the solution?

Hi,

Sorry, but your situation is not clear for me!
Have you registered your TV or not? How? How do you see it is registered  (or not).
You say playback fails, but could you give some more precisions on when it fails (after Warner Company's logo or just at the very begining? Is this just for VODs or even for non protected divX movies?

If you did not see the message by which it was registered at the end of the small movie downloaded from DivX site for registration, then it is a different case than mine and it would be better to open a distinct case for you.
Anymay, is it it is written "registered" in the "smart share" options of the TVs?

Hi al,

I seem to have a similar problem - DivX registered OK, downloaded the file, tried streaming through PC and whammy, only got the sound and a black screen.

Closed it and tried again, this time it told me that the type of file is not supported! Don't know what all that is about..?

So in trying to remedy this, I copied the video to a USB stick and tried to play it on that - same problem, supposedly not supported!

Quite infuriating me to say the least! TV is an LG 42LA690S, if that is any help.

Any help will be most appreciated!

Best,

As you can read i Had similar trouble. Now my tv work but i don't have a correct procedure to suggest. I only can say to try and retry several times. Try to re-register, give downloaded file the same name of tv, try more than one usb stick.
Don't use network, not works.

Hi everybody,

I found that by playing the file on my (registered) laptop PC linked by an HDMI cable to the TV, I could watch the movie on TV.
However the bug is still there if I use only the TV and I am a bit surprised that Eugene who is tagged "Official Rep" can not give us more information on that. For example, is there any plan to upgrade the firmware so that it works with all kinds of USB sticks?

The problem I had is not the brand of the stick, is that if you read the manuals/site or do some google search, the only filesystems accepted are plain FAT or NTFS. Sticks formatted with newer versions of FAT (exFAT) to accept files greater than 2GB are not accepted.

An update on Bulgroz's issue - We have been going back and forth with LG about this issue for the past few months and they successfully identified an issue on their end. They have let us know they have fixed the issue and the fix will be available in a future firmware update for that particular TV model. The estimated timeline from LG for the firmware update is the January/February 2015 time frame. If that changes or we receive word from LG that the firmware is available sooner I will update this thread. Thank you for your patience on this issue.
