When I try to play a video in the DivX Plus Player, it keeps crashing and Windows gives me a generic error message that it needs to close the program.

The most common reason for player crashes is a needed system update. Most often, a computer needs updated drivers for the video card. Sometimes a Windows update is also needed.

If the Windows error message has a link to view more info or details about the error, follow the link and look for the "Faulting Module". This is usually a .dll file, which will correspond to a specific program or component on the system. A simple google search will usually reveal the program or component to which the .dll file belongs.

In the case of a video card's .dll being at fault, usually a simple update of the video card's drivers will resolve this. Check the website for the manufacturer of your video card. They will usually have an easy way to search for drivers for your specific video card and operating system, with a link and instructions to download the updates.

We always recommend keeping your system up to date. Microsoft provides instructions on how to check for updates here.

Since the latest update, DivX Player will not open, and I receive the message that it has stopped working. How do I get it to start working, I would be happy if it was crashing at least then I would have some sort of error to work with.
